Managing Director and Principal Lawyer

Adam Ly is the Managing Director and Principal Solicitor of LY Lawyers Pty Ltd.

Adam is a well known Criminal Law specialist.

Adam has been practicing law for more than 20 years, and has over 25 years industry experience, exclusively in Criminal Defence.

He appears daily in the Local Courts, District Courts and the Supreme Court of NSW, and has extensive experience with complex criminal matters in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal.

Adam is currently involved in the firm’s most serious cases, including defending our clients charged with murder, large commercial drug importation and supply, serious sexual assault and complex fraud matters and serious interstate prosecutions.

Other than in New South Wales, Adam has appeared for our clients in serious criminal cases in Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. He has also appeared in District and Supreme Court trials in Victoria, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland. He has achieved huge success for clients who have been charged with extremely serious criminal offences throughout Australia, including numerous ‘not guilty’ verdicts in long and complex criminal trials.

Notably, Adam represented individuals and a Company in Australia’s first ever criminal prosecution for a ‘Cartel Conduct’ case, prosecuted by the ACCC and the Commonwealth DPP in the Federal Court of Australia in Melbourne, Victoria. The landmark case involved 2 of our firm’s clients (individuals) successfully avoiding imprisonment on Guilty pleas and sentencing (Australia’s first ever sentencing for Cartel Conduct), and our third client being found ‘not guilty’ following complex and protracted criminal proceedings before the Federal Court of Australia. The case will be a precedent for many years to come.

In NSW, Adam has been representing clients in numerous courts throughout the metropolitan area and country NSW. He continues to strive to protect the rights of those who have been accused of criminal offences. He will travel anywhere in NSW and Australia to defend our clients.

Adam is highly regarded for his commitment to his work and clients. His dedication to the principles of justice and fairness are what separate him from other criminal law advocates.

Jason Rodrigues, LL.B. (Hons) (UFMS), Juris Doctor (UTS)

Criminal Defence Lawyer

Jason has wanted to be a criminal lawyer since childhood, driven by a commitment to social justice. He began his legal career in Brazil working in the police department on domestic violence prosecutions and later served as a judge’s associate at the Federal Court of Appeal. After relocating to Sydney, he worked for the NSW Department of Communities and Justice as a court officer in the Local Courts for about three years.

Now practising as a defence lawyer, Jason has acted in local and Supreme bail applications, Local and District Court sentencing procedures, and complex District Court jury trials in high profile cases. His approach goes beyond courtroom advocacy and short interactions with people: he provides empathetic initial conferences, rigorous legal research, clear and practical legal advice, and strategic case management. His track record speaks for his work: has secured strong outcomes for clients across a range of matters, including domestic violence orders, summary and traffic offences, and strictly indictable offences in the superior courts, and defence in complex jury trials in superior courts..

Jason is passionate about working with minority communities, is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. He is an active member of the Young Criminal Lawyers subcommittee of the NSW Law Society, regularly updates his advocacy skills and criminal law knowledge through regular attendance to seminars and trainings, and is involved with the Brazilian legal professionals association in Australia and the broader Latin community in Australia.

Barristers We Brief

“Lawyers” in the Criminal Defence Law profession generally fall into separate and distinct categories, “Solicitors” and “Barristers”. Barristers form a separate part of the legal profession, and work in separate offices to solicitors called “Barrister’s Chambers”. Barristers are generally required to assist solicitors in serious criminal cases, often dealt with in the higher courts of NSW, such as the District Courts, or the Supreme Court of NSW.

Much like Specialist Doctors and GPs in the Medical profession, Barristers are instructed by solicitors to assist with particularly difficult cases that are dealt with in the higher courts, for example Murder or Manslaughter.

At LY Lawyers Pty Ltd, we instruct Barristers of the highest calibre and reputation, with a wide range of Junior and Senior Counsel (also known as a “QC” or “SC”) working with us on a regular basis. We have worked and continue to work with Barristers in various Chambers throughout Australia including:

  • Sir Owen Dixon Chambers- Winston Terracini QC
  • Samuel Griffiths Chambers – Anthony Bellanto QC, Nicole Carroll, Adam Williams
  • Garfield Barwick Chambers- Greg James QC
  • Tom Percy QC (WA), Phillip Urquhart (WA),
  • Phillip Dunn QC (VIC), David Hallows SC (VIC), Daniel Sala (VIC)
  • Michael Copley QC (QLD), Janice Crawford (QLD)

…and many more.

We have been very successful in defending serious criminal charges, working well with the Barristers we brief, both in Sydney and Interstate.

If you would like us to instruct a Barrister in your case, we are happy to introduce you to the various Barristers we brief to help us achieve the best result in your case.
