About Wollongong Local Court House
Wollongong is a seaside city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. It is the third-largest city in New South Wales, with an estimated population in excess of 300,000. It is located 85 kilometres south of Sydney. Historically, the city has been associated with heavy industrial activity and has been one of Australia’s most important port cities.
Wollongong Local Court is located on the corner of Market and Church Streets. It shares a building with Wollongong District Court. It was built in 1885, and is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
Wollongong Local Court opens at 9 am, with case hearings typically beginning at 9:30 am. The court does not sit on weekends.
Wollongong court house consists of 6 courtrooms. Rooms 1, 2, 5 and 6 are used for Wollongong Local Court matters, while rooms 3 and 4 are used for District Court matters. Audio Visual Link (AVL) facilities are available in rooms 3 and 4, but not the usual Local Court rooms.
What Cases Are Heard in Wollongong Local Court?
Local courts are the lowest-level courts in Australia. They handle the lowest-level criminal offences, known as summary offences.

How to Get to Wollongong Local Court
Wollongong Local Court is in a central location in Wollongong. There is plenty of parking available in the general vicinity. If you are travelling from the Sydney CBD, it will take approximately 1.5 hours to drive there.
The court is a 14-minute walk from the Wollongong train station, which is located on the South Coast Line of the NSW TrainLink network. Trains from Central Station in Sydney run to Wollongong Station approximately every 30 minutes. There are also frequent buses in the area.
