Monetary fines are usually imposed for less serious offences, such as traffic offences and first time summary offending. Fines can also be imposed as an additional penalty to a good behaviour bond and/or a disqualification period for a traffic offence.

Generally courts will look at your financial situation and consider what fine is appropriate in your case. If you are having financial difficulties in paying a fine, or are on centrelink benefits, we will argue that only a small fine is appropriate in your case.

You will have 28 days to pay your fine, however, if you are having difficulties making payment by the due date, we will help you ask the court for additional time to pay.
