Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran Shot Dead


 

After 10 years of incarceration in a Bali Prison, those 10 years including seemingly endless legal battles, with emotions oscillating between hope and despair, Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have been put to death.

The pair spent 10 years on death row at Bali’s Kerobokan prison and were executed by firing squad in the early hours of Wednesday morning. At 3.25am on 29 April 2015, (Sydney time) Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were shot dead.

Chan and Sukumaran were taken by separate cars to the west coast of Nusakambangan, he so-called execution island. It is reported that Myruan told his family that he would be blindfolded.

Fourteen officers from Indonesian police taskforce Brimob fired at each of the prisoners. 11 of those shots were blanks and 3 were live.

Later this morning, the Australian Ambassador in Indonesia was withdrawn, as a response to the killings.

Their families were present nearby the island, and could hear the gunshots that killed Andrew and Myuran.
